Niles Hatch is a San Francisco based photographer who specializes in traditional film technologies and printing, as well as doing digital assisting and retouching for other photographers. Quick to pick up on new technologies, while maintaining his love for photography’s past, Niles comfortably straddles the line between film and digital photographic processes.
Niles had the opportunity to work for several years as a custom printer and retoucher for one of San Francisco’s premiere photo labs, Lightwaves. Here he worked with many fine art and commercial photographers, and devoted his waking hours to honing his skills behind the camera, in the darkroom, and in front of a computer. This led to his current position of working freelance as a photo assistant and retoucher. Niles has been working closely with David Duncan Livingston for over three years as his first assistant as well as handling all of his post production, retouching and prepress work for many local and national publications.
